Family traditions are activities to strengthen the ideals of the family and the family bond. We have many fun traditions in our family. One of these we like to call mystery rides, where we get the kids in the car and head to a destination known only to us, and only giving the kids fun clues along the way. They really enjoy this activity! However, our most frequent family tradition is Friday Pizza and Movie Night. My oldest son loves it so much; he will turn down his friends to honor it. And the catch….it has to be pizza! Even when we offer him his favorite food, cheeseburgers, our pizza tradition prevails. The one tricky thing each week is deciding on a movie everyone wants to watch, because we want everyone to have fun!
Since there seems to be minions mania everywhere I look in the stores, I decided to pick up Minions © 2015 Universal Studios, All rights reserved. I knew it would be a fun flick that the entire family would enjoy! From crazy minion antics to adult humor, what else could we ask for?
As I stated earlier, we love pizza on these Friday nights. For a minions party night with the family I thought we needed to sweeten things up a bit. Not only will there be pizza for dinner, but for dessert as well! I decided to put on my creative minions thinking cap and create a delicious “Banana Blueberry Minions Dessert Pizza!” It ended up being a great addition to our Friday family pizza and movie night meal.
- 2 rolls refrigerated sugar cookie dough
- powdered sugar
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 tub whipped cream
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- ½ yellow food coloring
- 2 pints blueberries
- 3 bananas, sliced
- tube black frosting
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Roll cold sugar cookie dough onto a large round pizza stone, using powdered sugar to keep dough from sticking. Bake for 25 minutes. Let cool.
- In a mixer, blend whipped topping, vanilla, sugar, cream cheese and food coloring. Spread with a spatula onto the cookie crust.
- Use a bowl to mark where you want the googles to sit. Place blueberries on circle. Then add the eyeballs, google straps and mouth with the blueberries. Fill the rest of the pizza with sliced bananas. Finish your pie with some sparse hair at the top of the pie.
It is important that your crust is cold when you roll it. I used powdered sugar instead of flour. It expands as it cooks, so be sure to leave extra room for that.
I mixed my frosting in my mixer, which is my favorite kitchen appliance. Add as much yellow food coloring as you need to achieve the desired color. Once your dough is cooked and you have frosted your pie, it is time to let your creativity shine and create your minion, like Illumination Entertainment did when they created this movie .
Because I got my DVD at by looking at this website, I got this cute metal case and bonus disc. The Bonus disc contains three mini-movies and 40 minutes of extra features. My youngest son was so obsessed with these that on the day after our movie night, he watched them an additional five times on a drive we took to New Hampshire.
Tonight was actually our first time I have seen a movie on our new Blu-ray player, so the Minions movie Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack impressed me with its clarity. The picture was sharp and bright with vivid colors, just as good as a movie theater.
Make sure you create some fun family traditions with your family. These times help bond your family together and give your kids a sense of connection and family values. Maybe you can enjoy making and eating your own sweet dessert pizza pie and watching the Minions movie as much as we did? Savor these moments with your kids. You can never get in enough snuggle time while they will still let you, right? If you would like to connect more with the minions, you can get more fun recipes or follow them on Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube.
