One of the best parts of traveling is trying local food. I especially appreciate local desserts. Sweets are a luxury, a celebration of a well-spent day. Asian desserts are heavy on local fruits, rice, and beans. They are different than most sweets westerners are used to. Enjoy my collection of the best Asian desserts from […]
I am a foodie. I have foodie in my blood. Although I was born in this country, my grandfather, Fortunado Italiane’s family came fromPallazo Adriano on Sicily. Italians can eat, and they genuinely appreciate their food. Family dinners have many courses, and any food eaten in a restaurant was passed around so that one can try everything. My grandfather would talk at breakfast about what he was dreaming about eating for lunch, lunch at dinner, and at dinner for his next day’s eating plans. I was exposed early to foods from many places.
I love to cook. My food is not always pretty but it is always tasty and generally easy to make. I’m the queen of the couple ingredient recipe that is always requested to be brought again to the party.
But mostly, I love to dine out. I love the variety of it and finding and sharing great restaurants. My favorite foods involve butter, cheese, and chocolate, but I also love seafood, vegetables, an excellent filet mignon-there are really few foods I don’t like. I love a great glass of wine, but especially port wine!

One of the best ways to figure out how to spend your time in a place is to ask a local about where they take their out-of-town guests. Here is where I take mine in this beautiful state that I have lived in for over 16 years. Rhode Island is the smallest of the United […]
I am a little, OK maybe a lot, obsessed with ice cream. It needs to be rich, obviously made with cream and sugar. I want it filled with little things to give it texture. Here are the spots in the world where the ice cream has stayed on my mind for years following our initial […]
On my personal New England bucket list has been to get into the water and catch my own quahogs, like native locals did long ago. Thankfully, one of my best friends lives on a salt pond in Narragansett. So on a bright spring day she set out to teach three of our friends how to […]
While I was in Portland, Maine for a travel conference, a group of us were invited to a dinner hosted at BlueFin North Atlantic Seafood in the Portland Harbor Hotel. Much of Portland’s restaurant scene is frenetic and crowded. As soon as we walked into BlueFin, I was struck by its elegance and calmness. A […]

When my family is not travelling, we are reminded of our adventures by eating foods that we had in places we have visited. A few years ago we visited Texas, the birthplace of chili. It has taken some time to create a chili recipe that makes all of us happy, but we finally perfected it. […]
The Great Rhode Island Donut Quest It was a cold day during stick season in Rhode Island. We were in need and adventure, so decided to set out on a quest to find the best donuts in our home state of Rhode Island. It was much harder than we imagined! I had no idea there […]
Living in Rhode Island, we visit at least once a summer. Block Island is a very convenient day trip from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut or New York. In only about an hour, you can get a completely different state of mind and atmosphere. It is also small enough to explore well in […]
