There are many reasons why Australia is a perfect destination for campers. It is so huge and diverse that there is something for anyone’s taste. You can stay in tents or take a campervan around Australia. If you want to spend your time surrounded by an ocean breeze and a sound of crushing waves, check out some of many beautiful beaches all around the Down Under.
On the other hand, if you want to get to know the hinterland, you can choose among every kind of climate you can imagine. Whether you want to explore the dry land of the west, tropical forests of the north, moderate climate of the southeast, and even snow peaks around the Capital Territory, a great adventure is guaranteed.
Here are some spots every camper should have in mind.
Bay of Fires, Tasmania
This charming place is situated at the Tasmanian northeast coast, just south of the beautiful Mt William National Park. You can find many camping sites along the 50 kilometers long coastline full of beautiful sandy beaches and cozy inlets. It is a rather inexpensive campground which makes it even more popular.
Tasmania is known for dramatic weather changes, so make sure to bring sunscreen, bathing suit and summer clothes, but also some waterproof and warmer clothes. There are many activities you can try, like swimming, surfing, diving, hiking, boating, fishing, etc. It’s impossible to explore the entire area in a short amount of time, so you will have the reason to come back again.
Ayers Rock Campground, Northern Territory
This huge sandstone rock formation in the middle of Australia is a sacred location to the local indigenous Pitjantjatjara Anangu people. This is the reason why it is forbidden to camp on the ground of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. But you can stay in Ayers Rock Campground, situated just ten-minute drive from Uluru.
Although this campground offers many accommodations, like electricity, kitchen, and even swimming pools, you will have to prepare in advance for this kind of terrain. High-quality camping gear is a must in these kinds of conditions, so make sure to prepare your durable backpack, trail shoes, water bottles, sleeping bags, compass, first-aid kit, sun protection and other accessories in order to get the most out of this adventure.
Roebuck Bay Caravan Park, Western Australia
This beautiful camping site is situated in Broome’s friendly, shady and grassy park. A picturesque beach with an unimpeded view of the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean is a perfect spot for any avid camper. You can choose between a variety of experiences if you want to visit this hidden western Australian jewel.
You will encounter beautiful sunsets and the unique experience known as the Staircase To the Moon. Broome offers a lot of fine restaurants and shops, so you can spend many evenings away from the wilderness. If you are looking for an adventure, get into the hinterland to view the dramatic landscape full of gorges, craggy mountains and impressive rock structures.
Broken Hill, New South Wales
If you want to find a remote location to enjoy beautiful breathtaking landscapes, this is the real destination for you. Known as the “The Silver City” and the “Oasis of the West”, this mining town is surrounded with many interesting tourist attractions. Broken Hill Tourist Park is a perfect starting point to explore these spots.
Dry wilderness, ghost towns, and the wide-open space give this land an aura of mystery. This might be the reason why this area is so appealing to artists. Only nine miles from the town you can find twelve massive sandstone sculptures built by the sculptors from all around the world. They dominate the area and make this landscape even more impressive.
No matter if you want to visit the dry inland or for the breezy coast, you are heading to the great voyage. But keep in mind that you need to be well-prepared if you want to go camping around Australia. This is the fascinating land, full of stunning sceneries and beautiful people, but it is also a challenge for any camper. So first make sure to take all precautions before you lift off to a great adventure.
