I must admit that we went to Cardiff, Wales on a whim of my son to visit the Dr. Who Experience. While I was researching the city I came across something that excited me. I have a long love affair with science. I was a bug collector as a child, was coloring science books through my late childhood, got my BS in Microbiology and am a dentist. Another one of my great loves is ice cream. I found a shop, Science Cream, which perfectly combines these loves. A sweet-loving science geek’s dream.
This experience is more than just going to buy ice cream. I have made ice cream in an ice cream maker. I even spent an hour kicking around a hamster ball sort of contraption to make goat milk ice cream, but this was something I had never seen before. You choose your flavor, then they create the ice cream in front of you using liquid nitrogen and a blender in just a couple of minutes with smoke and sweet smells filling the air.
The Ice Cream
The flavors are unique and ever-changing. We had malted vanilla and brown sugar, which was very good. Some other offerings are stout and caramelized peanut butter- very creative. Their process of ice cream making results in a very smooth, yummy product. You are also allowed to choose variety of interesting toppings and sauces.
It is conveniently located in a cute shopping arcade just a few minutes from Cardiff Castle, but the hours are limited, so be sure to check their website before you go. I searched out and went to this ice cream shop on my own, but the owner was nice enough to provide sample ice creams complimentary to me so that I could speak more widely about the offerings. It was a fun, unique way to have my favorite food and we are all glad that we went. Have you eaten any really interesting ice cream? Let us know where in the comments.
