Spring at Tivoli Gardens, Denmark

My father, 10-year old son and I traveled through Scandinavia in late April, and spring hadn’t quite sprung yet. We were in a snowstorm in Norway. So, we headed south, hoping for an improvement in the weather. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen more than exceeded my expectations! Ā This amusement park is full of beautifully manicured gardens full of unique varieties of flowers.

What is the Tivoli Gardens?

There is an aquarium and so many birds, but no real elephants, although these cuties are a fun replacement!

Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest amusement park in the world. It opened in August of 1843. Its location right in the middle of Copenhagen, Denmark makes it very easy to visit. Don’t expect a small, old park, though! This place has everything current you could want in a thrill park, nothing like a local carnival, which is what I expected. But the setting is magical! It even inspired Walt Disney in his creation of Disneyland!

Admission to Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen

I am a big fan of ducks and enjoyed hearing them quacking all over the park.

There is now a small fee to enter the park. This fee includes shows and access to the gardens. You can buy separate tickets or a wrist band to go on rides.

The Peacock

The Pantomime Theater has a pretty cool curtain that opens like a peacock’s tail. Included in the entrance fee are the shows. Check out the showtimes here.

Restaurants in Tivoli Gardens

Our dinner view- As you can see, the beauty continues into the night. Even later, there is a water show on the lake.

Whether you are in the mood for a food truck or a fancy sit-down meal, you can find what you are looking for in this park. We ate at the FƦrgekroens Bryghus, which was part of an original fishing village. It has good food and beer and is right on the lake. I even made friends with a duck while I was eating my dinner, which always makes me happy.

The bright walls over the Frikkadellen restaurant.

In the spring, there are over 24,000 tulips in the park. Everywhere you look, there are floral delights. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy the pictures.

One of the things that especially drew me to these gardens is the horticulturists’ use of colors. Check out these pinks!

Tivoli Gardens was a fun place to visit. Not only did we have a fun day at an amusement park, but were surrounded by history and beauty. Definitely worth your time if you are in Copenhagen.
